Dr. Nelson grew up in the Chicago area, where he attended North Park University and earned a degree in biology. He went on to work in special education for two years prior to attending medical school at Loyola University. He then moved to Portland and completed his residency at Providence Oregon Family Medicine as Chief Resident. Dr. Nelson pursued a career in family medicine because of the diverse skill-set required to care for patients of all ages with wide-ranging conditions. He believes the relationship that develops between the patient and physician is the greatest privilege in medicine. “It is a joy to care for individuals and families throughout life’s many stages. I have particular interest in preventive medicine and office-based procedures,” shares Dr. Nelson. “I take pride in being a lifelong learner,” he adds.
As a child, Dr. Nelson developed a love for the Pacific Northwest, where he spent his summers on Vashon Island with his family. In his spare time, he enjoys running, biking, fly fishing, skiing, reading and listening to the National Public Radio.
