Purposeful Design at Silverado Communities
Fulfilling the special needs of individuals living with dementia is the purpose of each Silverado community. An environment where residents can benefit from compassionate care and clinical excellence is vital, so great attention is paid to making sure the communities are designed to accommodate residents’ unique requirements.
Silverado communities mix a variety of the following features into their designs to help ensure the best resident living experience possible.
Memory Boxes
Located outside each bedroom, memory boxes display important keepsakes and help residents find their room while providing valuable reminders of the things they hold most important.
Each resident’s uniqueness is treasured, and showing these cherished memories and points of pride helps keep it at the forefront of not just their own mind, but family, visitors and associates as well.
Lean Rails
Some Silverado communities are born (built from the ground up) and some are made (transformed from an existing building). Regardless, each and every one is purposefully outfitted using years of knowledge and experience to be a dementia-friendly environment. One of the first things visitors often notice are the unique lean rails running up and down every hallway.
Lean rails replace the standard bar-style handrails commonly used in care facilities. In addition to making it easier for residents to maintain balance with, these flat surfaces can reduce the fall injury risk created by the gap that exists between a standard handrail and the wall. The lean rail is an innovation pioneered by Silverado!
Bistros
One of the best comforts of home is being able to go browse the fridge for a snack any time you want. Residents who call Silverado home can do this at their community’s bistros!
Located at focal points throughout the community, bistros are a great place for residents to relax and enjoy a conversation or a snack. Bistro areas allow residents to stop by for a quick bite whenever they feel like it, grabbing a cold beverage, a sandwich, a sweet treat or whatever other delights the community’s culinary team has prepared fresh that day.
Community Lighting
Natural sunlight is a proven way to reduce depression, which often affects those living with dementia and can strongly exacerbate or even accelerate its symptoms.
Silverado communities are designed to allow maximum exposure to natural light through skylights, bay windows or atriums.
Playgrounds
Children are a fixture at Silverado communities, their energy adding light and liveliness to the surroundings. Many communities have a playground, where children can play and residents can gather to enjoy their laughter!
Courtyards & Walking Paths
Sunshine, nature and fresh air play an important role in residents’ wellbeing and quality of life, so each Silverado community has outdoor spaces designed for maximum enjoyment! These outdoor areas are a perfect setting for gardening engagements, gatherings, family visits or catching a few moments to soak in nature.
Wellness Stations
Silverado’s clinical/social model is designed to provide the warm, open, engaging environment of home while still maintaining a strong focus on clinical aspects. Communities have “Wellness Stations” instead of the traditional nursing stations, located unobtrusively throughout the community
