Residents in Nexus Living are in the earliest stage of their disease process. Their ability to communicate and socialize with other residents remains unchanged. Their needs on a daily basis are more social and less care based. Much evidence exists as to the benefits of physical exercise and cognitive stimulation for people of all stages of a neurodegenerative disease but particularly for people in the earlier stages of their disease process.

The brain health programming of Nexus provides physical and cognitive stimulation targeted for those in the earliest stages.

Silverado has 20 years of evidence that those residents who participate in “just right programming” ie., appropriate to their current level of cognition and function can make gains in their functional status even in the more moderate stages of the disease. For this reason, the five brain healthy pillars of Nexus inform programming throughout the community, adapted to the abilities of the residents in that particular neighborhood.

In order to ensure that Nexus participants are receiving optimal benefits, an initial evaluation is conducted, and regular monitoring performed.

Evaluations include:

  • Assessment before a move-in to determine correct placement. The initial neighborhood placement is solidified by the end of the 14-day care plan to confirm proper placement.
  • Reassessments of cognitive and functional status are done every 6 months or when there is a change in condition.
