LOS ANGELES — (October 26, 2023) – Company officials announced today that all charges against Silverado Memory Care have been summarily dismissed without ever getting to trial.
Silverado, a leading provider of memory care assisted living, stated yesterday’s outcome was not just a victory for Silverado, but also for the tens of thousands of senior living communities and healthcare facilities throughout the United States who fought courageously and tirelessly to protect those entrusted to their care during the biggest health crisis of our lifetimes.
“The baseless, egregious claims unfairly attacked our caregivers, who selflessly and courageously served our residents, worked to provide essential life-sustaining services and quality of life throughout a 100-year pandemic,” said Loren Shook, President, CEO & Chairman of Silverado. “We are proud of the loving and compassionate care they demonstrated during the most trying circumstances.”
The judge dismissed all charges against the defendants, begging the question of why the Los Angeles County District Attorney filed the case against Silverado to begin with, which consumed valuable resources in an already overloaded legal system.
The COVID-19 pandemic presented unprecedented challenges for caregivers and healthcare providers nationwide, especially in the beginning during March 2020, when caregivers in communities like Silverado bravely prioritized the needs of their residents over their own and their loved ones’ needs to care for those entrusted to them.

As local, state, and federal authorities worked to develop guidance for employers and care environments, Silverado boldly led with courage to establish protocols adopted by memory care providers and referenced by public health departments, licensing, and other agencies throughout the country. These protocols not only helped Silverado and its peers protect the health of residents and staff but also ensured that neighbors living with dementia and Alzheimer’s disease continued to be treated with the dignity and respect they deserve.
