Anyone who has helped a loved one along their journey of dementia can tell you that perhaps the most difficult aspect is the change in role as one becomes caregiver. Spouse, child, sibling or other – inevitably the daily toils of providing care alter the original relationship and transform it something more utilitarian. But that doesn’t mean the relationship is gone forever. In fact, getting the right care at the right time can bring the true value of a relationship into focus and help both the resident and loved one better appreciate their unique bond and closeness.
Leesa Bellessi was facing just such a situation with her husband, Denny, when she found Silverado. While it could never tarnish the love they shared, Denny’s dementia had altered how he and Leesa interacted on a daily basis. The strain of ensuring Denny’s needs and safety were provide for became all-encompassing, and Leesa found herself as more a caregiver than a wife.
All of that changed when Leesa found Silverado. Watch as she tells her story in the video below.
