Silverado Residents Rack Up Amazing Volunteer Hour Totals

When you help others, you help yourself. This is more than just a piece of positive thinking—it’s backed by science! A strong social network involving purpose-oriented activities has been found to protect against cognitive decline, which is why such a vital part of the Nexus® at Silverado brain health program.

And between January and June of 2024, Silverado residents contributed a total of 25,442 hours volunteering!

Residents at every Silverado community participate in a range of volunteering activities to give back to their local areas. These activities are among the most popular of the five Nexus pillars, offering many fun and engaging ways to pitch in:

  • Residents at Silverado Beach Cities recently baked cookies and delivered them to the Redondo Beach Fire Department as a token of appreciation for their dedication
  • Residents at Silverado The Huntington partnered with The Union Rescue Mission of Los Angeles to provide toys to the children of Skid Row
  • Residents at Silverado Barton Springs residents made summer buckets to donate to SAFE and help abuse survivors in Austin
  • Residents at Silverado Lee’s Summit made appreciation baskets for the Lee’s Summit Fire Department, Missouri Highway Patrol and local teachers

And these are just a few! You can always find residents participating in meaningful social activities in and around the community, from supporting the annual Walk to End Alzheimer’s to making care packages for local animal shelters.

To top it all off, resident service clubs receive special recognition in the form of certificates and award events to help them take pride in their accomplishments and drive home the positive effects of the selfless work they’ve done.

And with the end of the year so rapidly approaching, we can’t wait to see what the total is for July through December!
